Masahiko Oshima

Mr. Oshima is a Partner of Ares Asia and Chairman of Ares Japan. Prior to joining Ares in 2024, he worked for 40 years at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), where he focused on large corporates in international and domestic markets, debt and equity capital markets, and mid-cap corporates, as well as strategic planning, investor relations, regulatory compliance, and governance. Previously, he held various roles at SMBC, including Deputy Chairman and Deputy President. Additionally, he was Head of Global Corporate Banking Unit and Head of Global Banking Unit at SMBC's holding company, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG). Before such senior management positions responsible for the global markets, Mr. Oshima covered international financial markets as SMBC's regional senior management, including Head of EMEA, CEO of SMBC Europe, and General Manager of Americas Division's Strategic Planning. Mr. Oshima currently serves on the Board of Directors of Toyota Motor Corporation. Mr. Oshima holds a B.A. from the University of Tokyo in Economics and an M.B.A. from Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management.
